Improved Speed and Accuracy for
Archaeological Site Scanning

 


 



This SIGGRAPH Sketch proposes a technique to shorten the time needed to survey very large archaeological sites.  We introduce the idea of 'subdivision scanning' during the acquisition process in order to collect higher resolution data at the edges of architectural features.

Reconstructing a Colossus of Ramesses II
from Laser Scan Data

 

 



A SIGGRAPH Sketch that summarizes our results reconstructing a colossus of Ramesses II in Thebes, Egypt.  Our project has led to new understandings of the monument and is meant to encourage others to tackle similar projects.

Towards Digital Epigraphy for Egyptian Heiroglyphics
Being able to extract detailed 2D drawings from 3D data could help speed publication for archaeological sites.  This short paper discusses our proposes techniques and lays the groundwork for further work.

Meant as a full introduction to the results of the INSIGHT scanning project at the Zawiya and Sabil of Sultan Farag ibn Barquq, this paper traces our work methods and presents our results.

Drawing Accurate Ground Plans from Laser Scan Data

 



This short paper conveys a simple technique for culling ground plans from 3D scan data.  A short preamble briefly explains laser scanning in general, and the rest of the paper uses the Zawiya and Sabil of Farag ibn Barquq as an example to show the techniques in practice.
